I watched this last night for ? the first time but also two scenes so vividly are lodged in my memory I am 90% sure I've seen this before in my past but had no memory whatsoever of it beyond the two scenes (1. the scene where the girl dog love interest is introduced and then 2. when the children at the hotel are introduced). This movie is WILD. First of all, there's a real issue of this movie being racist. It's a straight to DVD 2000s Scooby-Doo movie. If you can look beyond this, it's a pretty fun film. Really WILD, there's a lot of twists for a kids movie. I kept laughing a lot (sometimes also just from like the OMFG type of laugher too). I really think it's funny that the movie posits that the chupacabra was the Mexican version of Bigfoot, which I have never heard of. Like most descriptions of the chupacabra have nothing to do with bigfoot. But am I really going to nitpick this when there's a scene where the gang put on the clothes of dead indigenious folks? I did have a good time watching this with my partner and I feel very lucky to be able to watch so many movies lately with them.
Rewatched this movie with my boyfriend & one of my dearest friends. This movie is always such a trip. Lowkey, there's a lot I kinda forgot about this movie, so a few moments were really making me laugh so hard. I do think this should be more of a staple in movies I watch during October, considering how fun this movie is. WILD that they put like sexy stinger music often over the one vampire girl. I wonder if it's because she's maybe? Elvira inspired? Or is this not the time of Elvira. I feel like it is. I should really look more into Elvira and for real watch something of hers. So if you're looking for a few and fun time, either by yourself or with friends, I think this movie is a really good pick!
Last night I rewatched When Good Ghouls Go Bad with a friend of mine and my boyfriend. It was so exciting to watch this with people who've never sene it before. The movie is very Scooby Doo antics, and like especially with the fun flavor of real supernatural. I used to rewatch this movie a lot when I was a kid and the goth dead kid was a character I had a crush on. I think this movie holds up, even if it's goofy and the CGI is sometimes like that. I think this is a fun film to watch in October / Halloween.
Recently saw Primetime with my companion. I feel I should try to write up like. Movie Reviews TM more then my raw thoughts, like this movie does make me wish I was a critic. If only because this movie is so interesting. I think the editing choices are incredible, the cinematography is excellent and so interesting, and Robert Pattinson + every other actor were givig it their all. I had no idea what to expect from this movie and the journey it took me on was so fascinating. There were so many choices I was wowed by, the film left me wanting more yet I wouldn't change a thing. I hope people will enjoy this movie. I should attempt to do like, actual reviews, go into details and plot and maybe even mention some specific scenes that stand out. I think Robert Pattinson's Chris Hansen had chemistry with Decoy Dan.
Rewatched Corpse Bride with my companion last night and it had me thinking about why do I not watch this one more around the spooky time of year? I do think it's Emily's head worm friend, that Steve Buscemi worm, and generally the fact that these days I'm not truly thinking about any stupid Johnny Depp movies. Corpse Bride is a good one. Makes me miss claymation and I think often about how much effort went into this movie in 2005. The music is very solid, but that's what you get with Danny Elfman. I suppose I shall continue to ponder on why this movie doesn't get a guarenteed play during spooky season, but for now, I'm glad that I was able to enjoy this film with my dearest companion.
Last night watched House On Haunted Hill with some good friends. This movie is always so much fun to watch, I think especially with people who haven't seen it before and don't mind making a few comments throughout the movie. There's a lot that's goofy about this film and one of my friends last night mentioned doing a Mr. Chicken and the Ghost double viewing with it and I am SO obsessed with this idea. I think that it would be quite the trip to watch those movies back to back. I did have a real fun time watching this movie and it's a great one to keep me in the spooky mood as October approaches.
I always have a great time watching The Great Mouse Detective. Had the pleasure of watching this one with some good friends and I might rewatch it again soon with another friend who expressed interest but couldn't join. I think the implications of the world building of this movie always gets my brain thinking. The fact that Sherlock Holmes is a real person and him & Watson are in domestic bliss while the mice are acting out their very same lives but as mice always GETS ME. I love Rattigan, I love the over the top nature of this movie, but I do wish that cats were not always demonized in mouse movies. Like I understand why but I raise you the idea that birds also eat mice and time & time again, you see birds aiding mice heroes. So what's up with that?
I will have to expand on this again sometime, but yesterday I saw on tumblr a clip compilation of The Monkees tv show and have suddenly found myself rewatching some episodes. In high school, I was SO obsessed with The Monkees, both the TV show and the band itself. I used to know like, the deep lore. Rewatching has brought back some of it but I feel so much has been forgotten. The show is so GOOFY, like no wonder I was having a fun time with it. Also I really feel... it's kinda horny. Like not... I don't know. Maybe I'm reading into things, but I think it's goofy and a little sexy so of course I was falling for these guys and wishing to write fanfic about them. Not that that's the end all be all of a show. But I just found something so charming about those four goofy guys.
Rewatched Harold and Maude last night with a very dear friend & my boyfriend. I used to be OBSESSED with this movie in like 12th grade, I think. About that time. Rewatching it last night, I think there's a lot I really did take to heart from this film, such as Maude's outlook on life. Not one to one, and I certainly could use from more of Maude's boldness or even some of Harold's audacity. I did cry a little on this rewatch and generally seeing this film again after so long just reminded me how much I love this fucking film. CINEMA!
I just got back from viewing Coyote Vs. Acme. I wasn't able to see Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma by the same director who did I Saw The TV Glow, but thankfully Coyote Vs. Acme had some more showings when I had the energy. This was such a touching film. I need to rewatch it and mull on it some more, but I really found myself laughing and enjoying myself in the theater. It made me cry! I'm so glad that this film was not just left to rot and that people are able to go see it. This movie is a beautiful love letter to how friendship, love, and caring can help things. Maybe it's not going to save the day or win the court case, but in the long run it brings the community together.
If you are able to, go see Coyote Vs. Acme okay. It's worth it. Makes me want to rewatch Who Framed Roger Rabbit to be so honest. And I might! On a similar note, PLEASE go see Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma if you are still able to see it.
Last night I watched Barbarella with my one dear friend and my boyfriend. It's always such a trip to revisit this film and I honestly think it's one of my favorites. I first watched this movie with my childhood best friend and we waited the whole film for Mick Jagger to show up, only to realize we had meant to watch another movie. I'm glad we mixed the movies up because I'm glad I know about this movie! Everyone should give Barbarella a shot. It's such a sexy, fun film with incredible sound and set design. I think this might even be a Jaws situation, where I think I could watch this movie whenever anyone wanted. I'd never get tired of it.
Just watched this with a few friends. What a fascinating film! From the wikipedia on this film: "directed by Inuk filmmaker Zacharias Kunuk and produced by his company Isuma Igloolik Productions. It was the first feature film ever to be written, directed and acted entirely in the Inuktitut language." If you are able to watch this movie, I highly encourage you to. It is an incredible piece of cinema, with such an engaging story. I really liked this movie despite it being a film that does not shy away from what may challenge an auidence. I'll have to try to formulate better thoughts and I intend to watch this movie again, but for now I just think this is a movie more people should be talking about. Really good movie. Incredible soundtrack, incredible acting, really incredible cinematography. It was very fun to watch this movie with some pals too.
I LOVE THIS MOVIE! I actually still am so in love with Boots Riely's work, I'm being so serious. Sorry To Bother You really took me by storm when I watched it in 2018 and I rewatched it last night and I completely remember why. Boots Riley is making films against capitialism, showing that the people have power and focusing on the fact that we are all under one struggle. Sorry To Bother You and I Love Boosters are in conversation in a way I haven't seen in a filmmakers work since idk. I am saying this all off the cuff and even though I went to film school I feel like I don't know what I'm talking about when I start trying to tackle what Boots Riley seems to be trying to talk about in his films. I feel I need to read up on some theory and become smarter so I can explain to people how I feel there has been no two films like I Love Boosters and Sorry To Bother You, especially if you keep both of them in mind as like. Sisters, brothers, lovers, what have you.
In some ways, I think I Love Boosters takes the absurdity of Sorry To Bother You and takes it one step up. I really am on the edge of my seat to see if Boots Riley does another film and what would that be like. I don't even think that if he went in a completely different direction I'd be mad, I just hope the adbsuridity and audacity and boldness of it stays strong. The soundtrack of this movie was divine, I absolutely adored the editing of the film, and Keke Palmer was SO GOOD. Everyone in the film was so good. It's just such a good movie. I hope that people will keep their hearts open to I Love Boosters, as again, if I'm going to worry about The Backrooms being considered a "challenging" film, I have to flag this as a film I worry people will think is TOO weird. I mean, it will probably get the same treatment of Sorry To Bother You where it's not really talked about unless you're in certain circles and those certain circles will either really love it or really hate it. Which is a shame. Sorry To Bother You should still be talked about, and I hope we do not move culturally on from I Love Boosters. I also think this movie has something akin to Everything, Everywhere, All At Once too.
The other day I saw two films with my companion. The first was The Backrooms. I knew going in some stuff about the Backrooms and I have seen the original YouTube Kane Parsons Backrooms, which I honestly think whether or not you know anything about the Backrooms going in, it will be a fun time. I really enjoyed how the film cut between found footage sections, I think it would have been cool to have the whole thing in this style, but I found it effective nonetheless. After discussing with my companion about my thoughts and their thoughts, I think this movie is one I need to watch again to truly parse out what I feel. I think there are some... troubling most likely unintentional aspects of The Backrooms that may have been worked out with a tighter script. I think there could have been a better established relationship between Clark and his therapist & honestly a better establishment of what I will call a certain twist so that I can avoid spoilers for now. Maybe when the movie is out a bit longer I'll talk about my thoughts at a deeper level. Also I'm sorry Mark Duplass but I think we could've cut your scenes in order to do this. But it was a solid film! I'm glad it has me thinking. I worry people won't like it because they will call this a "challenging" film or a one that's "hard to understand". I forget that I cooked my brain in an irreversible way in middle school. And that even though in my old ripe age of nearly 28, yes I am much better about consuming horror that's not gonna hurt me and I'm better about it all, I still have seen movies I wouldn't willingly watch today.
